In September 1999, William Cloud Hicklin surrendered his license to practice law to the Virginia State Bar. At the time disciplinary charges were pending against William Cloud Hicklin (the nature of the disciplinary charges William Cloud Hicklin was facing were not disclosed).
William Cloud Hicklin participated in so-called Internet "flame wars" for several years where he attacked and attempted to discredit other people. He resorted to name calling and arguing in metaphor. After 1999 William Cloud Hicklin has conducted a poison pen campaign against at least one individual, telling people to take what that person says with "a grain of salt".
William Cloud Hicklin attacks other people's credibility without showing that his statements are supported by fact. (Cf. http://forum.barrowdowns.com/archive/index.php/index.php?t-14556.html). William Cloud Hicklin does not disclose his personal animosity and long history of conflict with the people he disparages in Internet discussions.
Take anything William Cloud Hicklin says with a grain of salt. He will not tell you that he is attacking someone for personal reasons. He actively seeks to discredit Tolkien scholars he has argued with.
